Say

When

 

As salaamu a'laikum

 

you meet a Muslim

(May peace be upon you)  

 

Wa a'laiku mus salaam

 

a Muslim greets you

(And may peace be upon you)  

 

 
As salaamu a'laikum
WaRah matul laahi Wa Bara kaatuh

 

you meet a Muslim

(May peace, mercy and the blessings of Allah be upon you)  

 

Wa a'laiku mus salaam WaRah matul laahi Wa Bara kaatuh

 

a Muslim greets you

(And may peace, mercy and the blessings of Allah be upon you)  

 

Bis mil laah

 

before starting or doing something 

(In the name of Allah)  

 

Ja zaa kAl laah

 

for expressing thanks

(May Allah reward you)  

 

Ja zaa kAl laahu Khayr

 

for expressing thanks

(May Allah reward you with good)  

 

Baa rakAl laahu Feekum

 

responding to someone’s thanks

(May Allah bless you)  

 

Fi Amaa nil laah

 

a way of saying good-bye

(May Allah protect you)  

 

Sub haa nal laah

 

for praising 

(Glory be to Allah)  

 

Inshaa Al laah

 

for expressing a desire to do something

(If Allah wills)  

 

As stagh fi rul laah

 

asking Allah for forgiveness

(I beg Allah for forgiveness)  

 

Maa shaa Al laah

 

for expressing appreciation of something good

(As Allah has willed)  

 

Al Hamdu Lil laah

 

for showing gratitude to Allah after success or even after completing something

(All praise is due to Allah)  

 

Aa meen (Amen)

 

the end of a Dua (supplication)

(May it be so)  

 

Sal lAl laahu A'layhi Wa sal lam (S.A.W.)

 

whenever the name of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned

(May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  

 

A'layhis salaam (A.S.)

 

whenever a name of a Prophet is mentioned 

(Peace be upon him)  

 

Radi yAllah  hu A'n hu (R.A.)

 

(Singular) whenever a name of male companion of the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) is mentioned

(May Allah be pleased with him)  

 

Radi yAllah  hu A'n haa (R.A.)

 

(Singular) whenever a name of female companion of the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) is mentioned 

(May Allah be pleased with her)  

 

Radi yAllah  hu A'n hum (R.A.)

 

Plural form of saying companions of the Prophet

(May Allah be pleased with them)  

 

In naa Lil laahi Wa In naa Ilay hi Raa ji'oon

 

this is uttered as an __expression of sympathy of the news of some loss or some one's death

(To Allah we belong and to Him is our return)  

 

Laa Hawla Wa laa Quw wata Il laah Bil laah

 

during the time of troubles

(There is no strength nor power except Allah)  

 

Al Hamdu Lil laah

 

after sneezing

(All praise is due to Allah)  

 

Yar Ha'mu kal laah

 

someone else sneezes

(May Allah have mercy on you)  

 

Fi Sa bi Lil laah

 

giving charity

(For the sake of Allah)
