Welcome The Month of Rajab (1438 AH)
In sh Allah
On the commencement of the month of Rajab, Rasulullah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) would recite the following Du'a:
It is Said
As we enter another Rajab, we remember some events from our great history :-
1. Al-Isra wa Al Mi'raj
It is generally believed that the great event of Mi'raj (ascension of the Holy Prophet (S) to the heavens) took place in the night of 27th of Rajab. (some traditions suggest other dates).
The night Journey (al-Isra') of the Prophet Muhammad (S) was a journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and was followed by the Heavenly Ascent (al-Mi'raj) which took the Prophet (S) through the seven Heavens and brought him to the All Mighty Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. It was one of the most incredible events in the history of humanity and occurred at a time when the Prophet (S) was going through the most difficult phase in his life.
2. Battle of Tabuk (9 AH)
An army of about 30,000 Muslims moved towards al-Sham. The Roman armies were encamped at Tabuk, ready to raid the Muslims, but when they heard of the size and strength of the Muslim army coming towards them, and that they were led by the Messenger of Allah himself, they were terrified and rushed back into the interior of al-Sham to the safety of their fortresses. This left the Messenger (saw) with an easy task of occupying Tabuk without a fight. He stayed there for a month dealing with other minor resisting forces and also sent letters to the leaders and governors under Roman control in the area, who made peace with him and agreed to pay the Jizyah.
3. Salah al-Din Marched into Jerusalem (583 AH 1187CE)
It was also in Rajab, of the year 583 AH (1187 CE), that Salah al-Din marched into Jerusalem, liberating it from the clutches of the crusaders who had taken it and ruled it for close to a century.
This conquest was not only significant because of the inalienable importance of Jerusalem in Islam, but also because of its role as being one of the crucial stabs in crusader efforts to conquer Muslim lands.
4. Abolition of the Khilafah (1342 AH / 1924)
It was indeed a sad day when on monday 3rd March 1924 (Rajab 1342AH), the world woke to the news that Mustafa Kemal Pasha in Turkey had officially abolished the Uthmani Khilafah (Ottoman Empire). Abdul-Mejid II, the last Khalifah of the Muslims, was exiled from Turkey, never to return. This was the end of 1342 years of the institution which had played out its role of being a shield for the Muslim Ummah.
5. Nakba Day (15 May 1948)
The oppressive regime of Israel was created on the 15 May 1948 who launched a campaign to expel Palestinians from their homeland.
In 1948, 13 towns, 419 villages, and 99 tribal lands were depopulated in order to declare the State of Israel, occupying 78% of Palestine. 85% of the Palestinian population were driven off their lands.
