The fast of Ashurah
9th & 10th Muharram
10th & 11th of Muharram" (Bayhaaqi).
- "The best fasts after Ramadan, are those in Allah's month, Muharram". (Bukhari & Muslim).
- "The Prophet (S) encouraged the fast of Aashurah". (Abu Daud)
Dates (Based on Makkah) :
Thursday (21st Sep 2017) will be 1st of Muharram the Muslim new year 1439 AH.
Saturday (30th Sep 2017) will be 10th of Muharram, known as the day of Ashurah.

The Virtues of Fasting 'Ashurah'
Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of 'Ashurah', and this month, meaning Ramadhan." [Reported by al-Bukhari, 1867]
To Fast 9th & 10th or 10th &11th Muharram
It is mustahabb (encouraged) to fast Two Days, The 10th & a Day Preceding or Following the 10th
Karbala and Imam Husain
10th of Muharram, 61 years after the Hijrah was a Very Sad Day for the Muslim Ummah when Imam Husain Radhiyallahu Anhu the grandson of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam and many from his family were martyred on the plains of Karbala by tyrants professing Iman, after being deserted by the Kufans who had pledged their unwavering support and allegiance to him.
