Realistic & Rewarding Resolutions For New Year

As we enter the new year in this modern World, many things comes up in our minds. The best one is the "New Year Resolution", which most of us make every year and only handful are able to accomplish.

Most of the resolutions that we make are materialistic and worldly. Like buying a new luxury car, a big house, studying hard and get good marks, or buying the latest iphone, etc. We can definitely have all of the above and other required things but we should not make any worldly thing as the priority of our life.

As, Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an

"And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."  - {T.M.Q. - 51:56}

So, this year with many of our resolutions let's make one resolution to please the Lord of the Worlds.

Let's pick up one, few, or maybe all of the resolutions mentioned below and try to follow them In sha Allah.

  • Offer Salah,
  • Read Qur'an translation every day (a page or even a line),
  • Praise Allah (recite Hamd and Sana - Subhanallahi Wa bi hamdihi SubhanAllah il Adheem),
  • Help the needy / poor,
  • Feed hungry,
  • Sleep early (Staying up Late ... A Disease of Modern Times by Asma Shameem),
  • Give some time to your family (It's Sunnah),
  • Try to control your anger it is from Satan (Recite : Aaudhubillahi min ash shaytan nir rajeem),
  • Forgive people for their mistake (Prophet Muhammad said : Forgive people as you want Allah to forgive you in the hereafter),
  • Give Sadaqah (even looking at your brother with a smile is a sadaqah),
  • Visit sick and ask them to pray for you,
  • Respect your elders and love the young ones (no matter they are strangers).

There are many other small practices of our beloved Prophet (PBUH) that we can follow and get closer to Allah (SWT).

May Allah make it easy for all of us to follow the footsteps of his beloved. Ameen

Remember we don't have to be hard on ourselves, otherwise we end up quitting in the midway. And the most important thing it's not just a resolution for us, it is the Sunnah, so do it with love and enthusiasm In sha Allah.
