He was born on 1445 AD/849 AH in Cairo, Egypt .
Imam As-Suyuti was raised an orphan.
He travelled in the pursuit of knowledge to Damascus, the Hijaz, Yemen, India, Morocco, the lands south of Morocco, as well as to centers of learning in Egypt such as Mahalla, Dumyat, and Fayyum.
His well-known Shuyukh:
Shaykh al-Islam Siraj al-Din Bulqini (with whom he studied Shafi`i jurisprudence)
Shaykh al-Islam Sharaf al-Din al-Munawi (with whom he read Qur'anic exegesis and who commented As-Suyuti's al-Jami` al-Saghir in a book entitled Fayd al-Qadir)
Taqi al-Din As -Shamani & Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli (together with whom he compiled the most widespread condensed commentary of Qur'an Tafsir al-Jalalayn)
Burhan al-Din al-Biqa`i.
Shams al-Din As-Sakhawi.
Shihab al-Din As-Sharmisahi.
Muhyi al-Din al-Kafayji,
Sayf al-Din Qasim ibn Qatlubagha.
He has written on various subjects, that reach around seven hundred, Some well-known of them include:
Tabaqat al-huffaz (an appendix to al-Dhahabi 's Tadhkirat al-huffaz).
Nuzhat al-julas ash'r al-nisa'.
Al-Fawz al-Azim fi Liqa al-Karim.
Alfiyya As-Suyuti al-Nahwiyya.
He received the divine's call from his Lord in the year 1505AD/911AH, and is buried in Cairo.
