About Umdatul Ahkam
'Umdatul Ahkam is a famous text that contains hadith pertaining to juristic rulings (ahkaam) from Bukhari & Muslim written by Imam Abd Al-Ghaniyy Al-Maqdisi.
Like Bulugh al Maram, ibn Hajar, the author leaves out the chains of narration and suffices with the name of the Sahabi.
The ordering of the chapters falls in line with the Hanbali fiqh as the author himself was hanbali, yet despite that many scholars from other schools of thought paid great attention to this text, such as Ibn Daqeeq al 'Eid and ibn al Mulaqqin.
Umdatul Ahkam is the explanation of the above mentioned book, which is one of the best sharh ever written on it as it is classical but concise and not too detailed. He explained the problematic narrations, supplemented some Ahadith with others, brought out the wider understanding (Fiqh) of the hadith as well as combined the views of the Fuqaha.
About Imam Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi
Shaykh Al Islam Muwaffaq al-Din 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi al-Hanbali was a reputable scholar of the Hanbali madhhab, author of ''Al-Mughni", (the main Hanbali 'fiqh'' manual) as well as 'Mukhtasar Minhaj Al-Qasidin' (a summary of Imam Ghazali's Ihya ulum al-din') and ''Tahrim an-Nazar' ('Censure of Speculative Theology'), an attack on Ibn Aqil's rationalist views.
He was born in Palestine in 541 AH, where he became Hafidh of the Qur'an at an early age and moved to Baghdad where he studied under some established scholars such as Shaykh Abdul-Qadir in his final days (i.e. before he passed away), Ibn Al-Jawzi, Hibat-ullah Ibn Al-Hasan Ad-Daqaq, Abi'l Fath Ibn Al-Batti, Abi Zurah Ibn Tahir, Yahya Ibn Thabit, Khadijah An-Nahrawaniyah and others.
