About The Book

This is a Lecture delivered in English at Aligarh in 1910, Allama Iqbal calls for a new Pan-Islamic direction of his hopes. He recalls the memory of the vanished glories of Islam and a complaint about its present decadence, and a call to unity and reform.

Reform can be achieved by strengthening the individual through three successive stages:

  • Obedience to the law of Islam
  • Self-control
  • Acceptance of the idea that everyone is potentially a vicegerent of God.

Finally the life of action is to be preferred to ascetic resignation.
This Lecture was also translated into Urdu By Maulana Zafar Ali Khan as "Millat-e-Baiza per Ek Imrani Nazar".

The learned men of the first community and those who followed in their footsteps - the people of virtue, the narrators of the Ahadith, the jurists and analysts- they must only be spoken about in the best way and anyone who says anything bad about them is not on the right path
